With the winter holidays right around the corner I’m here to bring you the perfect gift guide for the conscious consumer. These products are all ethically made and many are made and designed right here in Nashville, TN. With that said, remember that less is more—don’t get caught up in the consumerism frenzy this holiday season. Instead, invest your time and money in causes, people, and brands you can be proud to support.
- BRANDED Collective Brass Tiny Cuff | $20
This Nashville-based jewelry brand partners with End Slavery TN to employ survivors of human trafficking. The brand offers survivors job training, professional development, and fair wages while they go through a treatment program. Employed survivors stamp their initials on each piece alongside a number that customers can use to register online and send BRANDED’s survivors a message of hope or encouragement. But that’s not all. This brand also ethically sources all of their materials down to the raw brass, aluminum, and copper. What’s not to love about them???
- Thistle Farms Moisturizing Hand Lotion | $14
Another female-empowering brand, Thistle Farms provides housing and employment for survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. After survivors graduate from Thistle Farms’ residential program, they can work for the brand in a variety of ways. One such way is by making organic products to sell like the hand lotion pictured above. The brand has been incredibly successful nationally and internationally for 20 years now. Over the past two decades Thistle Farms has employed 59 women survivors, provided 9,215 nights of safe housing, and offered 14,100 hours of counseling and therapy. All thanks to a great mission, incredible leadership, and the support of consumers like you.
- Clary Collection Bath + Body Oil | $42
Started by two mothers, Adriel Denae and Jen Auerbach, Clary Collection sells all natural, 100% organic moisturizers and balms. The brand uses plants native to Tennessee, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Australia and oils from South America. Made by mothers for mothers, Clary’s products are safe for the skin and offer restorative results.
- ABLE Hailu Wallet | $74
Formerly known as FashionABLE, ABLE works to end generational poverty by employing women in need in Ethiopia, Peru, Mexico, and the United States. The brand offers meaningful employment and often comes as an alternative to prostitution or drug trafficking for the women. In just a few years they have expanded from a small Nashville brand selling hand-woven scarves to an international brand that sells leather goods, hand-made jewelry, denim, and footwear.
- Bela Begonias Tiny Tag | from $39
Inspired by nature and her need to create, Bethany Wilson started the jewelry brand Bela Begonias almost two years ago. Her pieces are simple, elegant, and beautifully handcrafted. She uses quality materials like gold, sterling silver, and raw stones. These tiny tags are a crowd favorite for their elegance and personalized symbols.
